Empowering immigrants and refugees to tell their own stories.
The long-awaited book cover is here!
Coming in June 2024
Compelling narratives that need to be heard.
Welcome to the official website of Stories from Newcomers to Canada (SNtC). SNtC is a life-writing project that brings together newcomers from across British Columbia to author their own stories of migration.
These short stories will be part of SNtC’s forthcoming book, Geographies of the Heart: Life-Writing from Newcomers to Canada, a collection of edited creative non-fiction capturing the complexity of newcomer experiences in Canada, including finding belonging, experiencing racism, inclusion, exclusion, and the human capacity to find new paths and ways of being.
Meet the Team
All of the contributors to the narratives in this book are newcomers, both immigrants and refugees. Please see our author page to learn more about the wonderful community of contributors that make up this book and this project.

Check out our podcast in partnership with UBC Centre for Migration Studies, which will give you an early glimpse of some of these stories in-progress and our authors. By subscribing to the podcast you can receive all eight podcast episodes featuring interviews with eight of our writers. Enjoy!
Support Us
Support Stories from Newcomers to Canada and help refugees and immigrants tell their own stories and share them with the people that need to hear what they have to say.

“It was a gift to work with these writers – and humbling. Their stories are urgent and need to be told. I would encourage anyone who wants to know what kinds of experiences might reside behind the faces of newcomers to Canada to support this project. Supporting this project also enables the wonderful facilitators of this group to find workshop leaders in our communities whose backgrounds may not be so different from some of the participants – and to support those authors through paid work. Every bit helps. In gratitude for the work these amazing facilitators and writers are doing.”
